The reception held for the victorious medal winners at the recently held National U-15 Youth Games by the Government of Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday was a platform for the parents of the athletes to show their appreciation to the governor for his passion and support for sports in the state.
The event also gave sponsors, which have been given support to the Lagos State Sports Commission since the assumption of power by the incumbent Director General, Lekan Fatodu, the opportunity to also express their appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The Deputy Governor, Dr Kadiri Hamzat represented the Governor at the colourful event held inside the Banquet Hall of the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.
Mr. Godwin Egbede, who spoke on behalf of the parents of the athletes applauded the gesture of the governor to host the children which he believes would have a great impact on them.
He said it’s a rare privilege that those children were choosing out of millions of children in Lagos for the national assignment in Asaba Delta.
“I want to express our gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for honoring these children with the reception,” he said.
Egbede further said that, as Lagos is the pacesetter of sports in Nigeria, there are urgent needs for the government to support the sports commission with more funding for it to succeed in its mandate.
To the Managing Director of Parallex Bank, Mr Oluremi Bakare, Governor Sanwo-Olu deserves accolades for creating an enabling platform for young athletes to exhibit their talents.
While applauding the athletes for doing the state proud at the National Youth Games, Bakare wants Team Lagos, not only to sustain the record, but strive harder to pick the overall first position in the next Games.
He assured the management of the Lagos State Sports Commission that “we are going to run the race together. Despite our newest in the market, I can see that we share the same vision. I see the partnership as a privilege not as a right and we will do everything possible to ensure that we take the relationship to the next level,” he said.
Managing Director of Balmoral Group, Mr Ezekiel Adamo said that he grew up in the sports family and he is also involved in sports.
“I know the power of sports, how it can be used to build bridges and foster relationships in the society, hence the resolve of my company to continue to support sports in Lagos State especially when it comes to giving support to these young ones.
“On our own part we will be there in the areas of infrastructural development and talent development,” Adamo said.
