The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has continued to demonstrate its dedication to ensuring credible and sustainable Wastewater Management in the State by once again responding to public outcry and clamping down on MYCA7 Court, Van Daniel Estate, off Orchid Road, Lekki for discharging its sewage into public drains via pumping machine, thereby causing public nuisance, environmental pollution, and endangering the lives of citizens of the State.
These Environmental nuisances, according to the General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, were discovered through complaints received from concerned residents of the State, who have been impacted negatively by the recurring offensive odour.
He said the untreated wastewater is usually pumped into public drains through the use of a pumping machine. This act pollutes the environment and exposes the citizens to communicable disease through the discharge of untreated wastewater onto the roads, drains and lagoons.
Engr. Afolabi, while emphasising that the State has zero tolerance for Environmental pollution and degradation, advised that residents should embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to enhance public health and environmental sustainability.
He said the Agency remains undeterred in its efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment in the State, for the sake of the public health of the citizens of the State.
The General Manager maintained that every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and prosecution.
Engr. Afolabi, therefore, appealed to citizens of the State to continue to reach out to the office whenever they see any act of Environmental Nuisance that can affect the health and well-being of citizens of the State. He said the office can always be reached on its official lines 08022022397, 07025332163 or through any of its Social Media handles @lswmomedia on Instagram, X (former Twitter) and Facebook.
