Police Arrest Ekiti Varsity Lecturer Over Ex Governor Fayemi’s Petition

A lecturer at the Ekiti State University, Dr Tope Bankole has cried out of his arrest by the operatives of Ekiti State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at the weekend in Ado Ekiti.

It was gathered that Dr Bankole was arrested in connection with a petition written by the former governor of Ekiti State, who claimed in his petition that Dr. Bankole alleged him of mismanaging Ekiti State funds while serving as a Governor of the state.

This, it was learnt, was a statement posted on a closed platform tagged EKSU JKF forum, where Fayemi himself is a member.

Dr Bankole is the Welfare Officer of Ekiti State University Branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

While reacting to the arrest of his Welfare Officer, Chairman of ASUU-EKSU, Dr Arogundade said: “In view of the recent happenings in the State, where one of us is being unjustly detained for an altercation that ensued between him and the former Governor, John Kayode Fayemi on a particular Wassap Platform, where the Governor himself is a member. It has become imperative for us to take formal steps towards resolving the matter.

“This has become necessary going by the RRS refusal to allow processing of his bail application; an action considered as an abuse of office and privileges.

“Whilst we are still expecting possible  eleventh hour change of minds and attitude from officers of the RRS, our members are hereby placed on red alert for an emergency Congress against tomorrow (Monday) where it shall be discussed. We will also like to know how the request for our withheld subventions from the former governor by Comrade Tope Bankole has become a sin.
