All is now set as the issue pof security takes the front burner when stakeholders gathered to find the last solution to secure Owo local government in Ondo State and its environment.
With the theme “SECURING OWO AND ITS ENVIRONS: STRATEGIES FOR COMMUNITY SAFETY AND RESILIENCE”, the maiden Owo Security Summit will hold on Monday 26 May 2025 inside the Prof. Abubakar Rasheed Auditorium of Achievers University in Owo starting from 9am
A press statement signed by Mr Olatunbosun Oladimeji, the Publicity Secretary of the Owo Security Summit Committee, Governor Dr Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, the Executive Governor of Ondo State and his Deputy, Dr. Olayide Adelami are the Special Guest of the event.
He said all royal fathers within Owo local government area are the Royal Fathers of the one-day event, while Pastor Olugbenga Olumolawa, FCA is the Chairman, Summit Committee.
“The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegeshin Ogunoye III will lead the royal fathers to the occasion. Hon. Tope Omolayo, the chairman of Owo Local Government Council Area is the Chief host, while the secretary of the security summit committee, Prof. Taiwo Adenegan will anchor the eventof the day,” Oladimeji said.
The aims of organising the Summit include creating awareness and consciousness of the people to the security of the community in order to reduce crime rates and improve security of the people of the local government.
“We also want to increase community engagement leading to increase trust and cooperation between the law enforcement agents and the people as well as improve intelligent gathering and at the end of the day, we are looking towards setting up a security trust fund to support security initiative and sustain security project in Owo local government and its environment,” Oladimeji said.
It would be recalled that the Owo local government has been facing a myriad of security challenges in the past few years.
The Owo Catholic Church massacre in the year 2022 was a major blow to the security of once peaceful Owo kingdom. Of late, a series of kidnapping incidents have been reported which have affected the socio-economic life of the people of the local government.
