Over 100 students from the Education District IV participated in the 2024 Handball clinic scheduled held from 23-25 January, at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.
The event was put together by the Lagos State Handball Association in conjunction with the Lagos State Handball veteran Association to continue to leverage on the teachings of the game, promoting grassroots sports and to stem the tide of juvenile delinquency in the community.
With the theme tagged “Cultivating Tomorrow’s Champions” is a platform provided to use Handball game unlock the potential of prospective players, talents identification and to build formidable team for better tomorrow.
No fewer than 10 selected schools both from primary and junior session, and over 100 pupils in the Education District IV engaged in the basic trainings of handball game.
Some of the participating Schools are: CMS Grammar School,Bariga; Aje Comprehensive Junior High school,Sabo; Herbert Macaulay Junior School; Government College, Eric More; St.Patricks Primary School,Sabo. Fazil Omar Primary School,Iwaya; Jagunmolu Girls Junior School,Shomolu and Ruthina College, Ikorodu among others.
According to one of the students, who gave his name as Ogunkoya Adeniran from CMS Grammar School, Bariga, said, it has been easier for him to learn about the Handball game in different departments.
“It is been a little easier for me to learn in different capacities. I’m happy that am learning how to play Handball.”
Okeibuno Onyinyechi noted that the clinic is an eye opener for her learning how to play Handball and other rudiments as a prospective player.
” I want to see myself going out to help my school win so many awards in Handball. I also want to let people know that the game can make someone go far in life and become a responsible citizen in the society”.
Chairman Organising Committee, Rasheed Oguniran reiterated that it is just a pilot study started with just 10 schools and the committee would ensure the clinic go round the education districts in the state.
“Our end goal is to have Lagos State Secondary School Handball League where we can catch the students young”.
