The second edition of Olowo’s Cup Super 8 Tournament kicked off on Monday with Imade College made a mince meat of their opponents, Methodist High School with a. resounding victory.
The encounter, played at the Owo Township Stadium, saw Imade College beating Methodist High School 4-0. With this victory, Imade College have sent a strong warning signal to other teams in their group that they are in the tournament to win the covered trophy.
Meanwhile, matches continue on Tuesday with Owo High School taking on New Church Grammar School in a gruelling encounter scheduled for 3pm at the Township Stadium.
Olowo’s Cup is a grassroots football competition designed for students in secondary schools in Owo land. It is a competition being organized to honour the Paramount Ruler of Owo land, His Imperial Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III.
In this second edition, eight secondary schools divided into two groups of four teams in each group will participate in the month-long grassroots football competition.
In Group A are Imade College, Owo, Methodist High School, A.U.D. Comprehensive High School and Ijebu Community Grammar School.
Group B consists of Owo High School, New Church Grammar School, Aseyeri-Iyere High School and Ahmadyihah Grammar School.
The final of the tournament is scheduled for 30 July 2024. It’s slated to be one of the side attractions of the renowned Igogo Festival 2024.
