A Lagos based physiotherapist, Mrs. Omowunmi Odunnaike has counselled Dosu Football Academy on injury management.
Odunnaike while delivering a lecture titled ‘How A Player Can Handle Injury Without Taking A Longer Time’ told Dosu Academy players and coaching crew that most of the players injure on the field of play but pay lip service to the injury which may cause their football careers.
“The players that sustain injury on the field of play need to rest for somedays and take care of the injury to heal. In the course of my medical research on player injury, I observe that many of our players want to use their injuries to play which is medically wrong and if cares is not taken, the injury may be there for a long time,” she said.
Ogunnaike, a qualified nurse who is attached to the academy as medical personnel, explained further that injured players need to seek for medical treatment if need arises.
According to her, if a player sustains hamstring, knee, toe or ankle injury, he can as well look for nurse or physiotherapist around his community to massage him and apply neurologist ointment instead of paying less attention to it.
The medical personnel however advised players to always rest when their clubs are not engaged. She said if the players rest regularly, the less the injury saying that players who continue to have injury may affect their football career.
Responding, Dosu Academy coach, Kayode Agboola expressed satisfaction with the lecture saying that he would encourage and urge his players to take enough rest and monitor them while on off duty.
The Academy are currently playing in Nigeria Nationwide League Division Two
