No fewer than 64 teams would battle for N1.8 million naira as prize money winners in the second edition of Oba Saliu Babatunde Saliu Unity Cup which begins Tuesday at the Papa Ground, Oworoshoki, Lagos.
At the draw conference held recently, Olori Oluwabukola Maryam Saliu who spoke on behalf of His Royal Majestsy, Oba Saliu Babatunde Saliu expressed gratitude to the organising commiittee who worked round the clock to make this year’s edition comes reality.
She also appreciated them for the success of the last edition and admonished them to make this year’s a memorable and glamorous one.
Olori Saliu Babatunde Saliu officially announced the sum of N1million naira for the champions, while first runner up and second runner up would go home with the sum N500,000 and N300,000 respectively.
“I am delighted to be part of this year’s edition of Oba Saliu Babatunde Saliu Unity Cup draw ceremony. Many of us who witnessed the last edition were impressed with the organisation of the tournament and i expect this year’s edition to be more better.
“We are using this tournament to give back to society and promote football in our community. The competition comes in form of empowering our youths through sports which I believe it would make them busy throughout the tournament. As the competition kicks off on Tuesday, I wish all the participating teams best of luck,” she said.
Chairman Organising Committee, Kemac Emina thanked wife of His Royal Majestsy for her support since inception of the tournament and promised that this year’s edition would record huge success.
He also urged the participants to abide by the rules and regulations saying that any team violates the rules or forment trouble during or after the game would be sanctioned accordingly.
Four matches would be played on Tuesday according to the fixtures released by the organisers.
Lala FC face BBOL FC by 10am, Happy Boiz FC tackle Divine Champions by 12pm, while MS Success battle Green House by 2pm as Water Lee FC confront Ginzu FC by 4pm.
