NOC Women’s Commission Launches 2nd National Sports Seminar

BY JOSEPH ODOEKWU

The Women’s Commission of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has officially announced the kick-off of the 2nd edition of its landmark Women in Sport seminar series according to a statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Olympics Committee, Mr. Tony Nezianya.

The series will take place across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, commencing in the North West zone from July 9 to July 11, 2025.

Building on the success of the maiden edition, the commission has significantly expanded its horizon to include referees, umpires, and technical officials in this year’s program. This move is aimed at promoting inclusivity and empowering women in various aspects of sports administration. The seminar will focus on “Capacity Building in Sports,” aligning with the spirit of International Women’s Day and its call to “Accelerate Action.”

The seminar series will be held across the six geopolitical zones, providing a platform for female stakeholders in the sports ecosystem to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices. Participation has been opened to many female stakeholders, including administrators, coaches, and technical personnel. The NOC Women’s Commission aims to enhance the knowledge and capacity of female coaches and administrators, promoting gender inclusivity and creating a supportive environment for athletes.

According to Mrs. Kemi Obidahunsi, Secretary of the NOC Women Commission, “The seminar is necessary and timely as it will go a long way in sensitizing women in sports on life during and after sports.” The commission’s efforts to empower women in sports and promote their participation in sports administration and politics are commendable. The seminar series is expected to contribute significantly to the development of women in sports in Nigeria.
