No SWAN Full Council Meeting In Kano, President Nyong Warns Nigerian Public

The President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong, has reiterated that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Association is not aware of any Full Council Meeting scheduled for Kano State.

According to him, the NEC of SWAN has not yet decided on any venue or date for the Full Council Meeting and could not have fixed early May, when workers all over the world would be celebrating Workers Day.

A statement purportedly signed by suspended Secretary General of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo few days ago, announced that a Full Council of the association has been scheduled to be held in Kano with a plan to organize and give some Nigerians awards.

SWAN president, Nyong, however, called on states’ chairmen and secretaries to be wary of people who have either been impeached or suspended from office, from deceiving them.

He noted further that at the appropriate time, the NEC of SWAN would meet and deliberate on the five states that have submitted bids to host the full council meeting.

“I want to assure all sports writers in Nigeria that we are on the right path to ensure a progressive Association, able and capable of responding to issues as they develop.

“I am not unaware of desperate attempts to blackmail and malign some of us. It is a necessary route to take, especially when people fail to see beyond the present,” he stressed.

He called on discerning members of the public to be wary of unapproved awards and honours that do not have the approval of the SWAN NEC by laid down procedures in the Statute.
