Team manager of Great Olympics Football Club of Surulere, Seyi Ojo, has revealed why his team lost 7-1 to Lekki United in their opening match in the ongoing Nationwide League One NLO.
Great Olympics, who paraded young players, were not at their best on Thursday at Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle, as their opponents were on rampage over them throughout the encounter.
Ojo told our correspondent that his team were disorganised after the organisers ordered his team to come and play on Thursday instead of Saturday as stated in the match fixtures sent to the team.
“It was not a good start for us because we initially planned to play on Saturday, but suddenly the organisers asked us to come and play on Thursday because some teams are not ready.
“When we told our boys that they would play on Thursday, they were not happy and disorganised, which really affected us in our first game,” he said.
Ojo also identified another reason for the defeat saying that his players also lost concentration after they conceded early goals and admitted that their opponents were more experienced and matured than his team.
“Our boys also lost concentration after they allowed their opponents to score three goals within 30 minutes of the game. Our first half was not too good, and the second half was a little better after we reorganised the position of the players,” he said.
Ojo, however, said his boys would not be discouraged by the defeat and noted that the team would bounce back in their next game.
