NIS, Netball Federation Train Nigerian Coaches


As part of efforts at reviving the game of Netball across the country, the National Institute for Sports (NIS) Lagos and the Nigeria Netball Federation are collaborating to train coaches beginning with the south western part of the country.


Speaking during the opening of the 4- day training at the National Institute for Sports (NIS) Lagos, Director-General Professor Olawale Moronkola said the training will ultimately ensure the growth of Netball as it will now be incorporated into the curriculum of the NIS.


He also disclosed that a manual would be produced to create awareness for the development of the sports.

“This not just a collaboration between the National Institute for sports and the Netball Federation, but an effort to increase interest in Netball to produce more coaches throughout the country,” he said.


Also speaking, Secretary General of the Nigerian Netball Federation Dr. Toyin Aluko said: ” We are happy to be collaborating with NIS to take Netball to all the parts of the country. We have started with the South West, but there are plans to take it to the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. We thank the Director-General National Institute for sports Professor Olawale Moronkola for his support and magnanimity in agreeing to host the clinic. This is a new dawn for Netball development “


The clinic is holding from 10th – 14th March, 2025 with 50 participants taking part is titled: “Revival of Netball in Nigeria”.


The event is being organized under the auspices of the Association of former female Athletes of Nigeria.
