R2 Finesse Rugby Football Club player Ashagbesoro Kafayat has showered praises on her teamates following their defeat in the week six of the ongoing Nigeria Rugby League Association Championship.
Lagos Bulls Rugby Football Club female team defeated R2 Finesse Rugby Football Club 38-18 in of the women’s category in the league taking place at the CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos.
The Southern Conference tie which decided over the weekend saw Bulls Ladies completely outplayed R2 Finesse in an encounter watched by appreciable crowd.
Kafayat who gave a good account of herself said it was a tough game for her colleagues admitted that their opponents were better and deserved the victory.
“It was not our day.We played better when we first met but today(Saturday) is not our day and we were completely outplayed.Despite our defeat, i can still commend my teamates for their resilience and commitment showed in the league.
“Some of them were tired because they have started preparing for World cup qualifier against Kenya scheduled for next month,”she said.
In her own remark, Lagos Bulls player, Funmilayo Aladeyelu expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the match stated that they were determined and focused which earned them victory.
Meanwhile the NLRA 2024 Championship also provided opportunity for female players to stay in good shape ahead of the women’s national team upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kenya.
Speaking on the world cup qualifiers,Welfare Manager, Nigeria Rugby League, Wuraola Hussain said the women’s team are expected to resume camp in the next few weeks while seeking support from corporate organizations to aid Nigeria’s quest to win the World Cup qualifiers.
In male category results, R2 Finesse RFC defeated Lagos Rhinos RFC 78-8 while the tension soaked encounter between Lagos Bulls RFC and Lagos Trinity RFC ended 24-12 in favor of Bulls men.
