Captain of R2 Finesse Rugby Football Club, Abiola Obazuaye has expressed confidence that her teammates would bounce back after losing two matches in the ongoing Nigeria Rugby League taking place at CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos.
The female team of R2 Finesse narrowly lost to Lagos Bulls 20-22 in a kneely contested game in week three of the league played over the weekend.
Speaking after the match, Obazuaye said she was not worried about the defeats rather commended her teammates for giving their opponents a run for their money.
“Our game against Lagos Bulls was a tough one because the result was too close.Of course our opponents have experienced players but we were able to hold them throughout the enconter.Some of our players are new in the game so it slows us down in our two matches,”she said.
“Concerning our performance on the league, of course we have not won a match yet and i am not too worried about that.We improve in each game and we would be better in our next game,”she said.
In her own remark, Lagos Bulls Assistant Captain, Innocent Adaeze admitted that their game against R2 Finesse was tough saying that her team paraded some inexperienced players that are new in the game.
“We won narrowly but we still need to work hard to achieve our common goal at the end of the league.It was a tough game for us indeed because we introduced some players who don’t really know the rules of the game very well but I am happy that they are catching up and our next match would be better than this,”she said.
In other results, R2 Finesse walloped Kings boys 18-0, while Trinity lost 10-44 to Lagos Bulls in the male category.
In U-19 category, Baptist Academy of Obanikoro beat Ansar Un Deen Grammar School, Surulere 10-8 as CMS Rugby football team humbled Toyibat team 24-16.
