Encomiums and congratulatory messages have continued to pour in for Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye since the announcement of his appointment, Thursday, as the Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Elegbeleye who headed the now scrapped Interim Management Committee of the top tier football league was confirmed as the substantive chairman of the reconstituted NPL board on a two-year tenure.
Nigeria Pillar Of Sports, High Chief Donatus Agu-Ejidike, JP, has joined the train of well-wishers of Elegbeleye, as he described the appointment of the former deputy-chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Sports, as a right step in the right direction towards the total rejuvenation of the country’s premier football league.
“Firstly, let me say well done to Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau and the board of the Nigeria Football Federation for this well thought appointment,” Agu-Ejidike said.
“The appointment of Hon. Elegbeleye is justifiable in view of his vast experience as a well grounded sports administrator, and particularly, his recent achievements as the past chairman of the just disbanded Interim Management Committee of the NPFL.
“What he did with our football league in just six months, is very commendable. And like many lovers of Nigerian football, I believe he is equally capable to take our league to new and greater heights, and of course restrengten our local football.”
The renowned philanthropist and successful businessman went ahead to advise Elegbeleye and his team not to rest on their oars. Stating that the new appointment comes with lots of challenges and odds. Adding that Elegbeleye, cannot afford to fail or disappoint the faithful lovers of the game and particularly, the new converts of the fastly growing local football.
