FC Joseph Dosu Football Team on Thursday morning qualified for the round of 16 in the ongoing Nigeria Ex Internationals Cup taking place across the the various centers in Lagos.
The ongoing tourney is the first of its kind in the state and put together by the Lagos State Football Association LSFA under the leadership of Alhaji Liammed Olawale Gafar.
FC Dosu defeated FC Jide Oguntuase 4-2 on penalty shootout after one goal apiece at the regulation time at the Rehabilitation sports center, Isheri, Ojodu Berger, Lagos.
The first leg ended 2-2 in Ikorodu some days ago at FC Oguntuase playground.
FC Oguntuase took an early lead through a spectacular freekick by Noye Felix.
Both teams entertained fans with their football artistry.The homers began to put pressure but all their efforts were in futility.
The two teams increased the tempo of the game in the second half.Their efforts this time around was rewarded when FC Dosu player, Folarin Tope scored from a freekick few meters outside the penalty box to get an equalizer.
The encounter went into penalty shootout as Dosu boys emerged as winners and booked a place in the next round.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach, Joseph Dosu, former Nigeria senior team goalie thanked his players for their doggedness and resilience showed throughout the match.
He admitted that the opponents gave them a run for their money but thanked goodness for the hard fought victory.
“It was a tough battle for us and my boys were lucky to have won the game during the penalty shootout.Our equaliser in the early second half brought us back to the game and I thank my boys for their fighting spirit and doggedness displayed throughout the encounter,”he said.
