The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC) Rev. (Amb.) Samuel Ikpea has joined the football community in Nigeria to pay tribute to the late Christian Chukwu who passed on at the age of 74.
Ikpea who spoke from his base in Lagos, described the news as sudden and eulogized the contributions which the former national team Captain and coach made towards the success of the Super Eagles.
“We got the news with shock” Ikea started. “But the accomplishment and legacies which the former Super Eagles coach left is indelible”.
“He was the first Nigerian to lift the AFCON trophy in 1980 when he captained the team to win their first ever AFCON which coincidentally was on home soil “.
“Aside that he also handled the national team on several occasions, making him because the first national team Captain to lift the AFCON and also manage the Super Eagles”.
“He is going to be missed and am sure that we at the NFSC will miss him greatly”.
Ikpea, who is fine-tuning plans ahead of the Africano FC Open Screening, which comes up from Tuesday April 15th to Thursday April 17th, 2025 in Lagos, also charged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to find a means to mortalize him stating that this will go a long way in ensuring that his commitment and good works is well appreciated nationally.
