New Church Grammar School Wins 2nd Olowo’s Cup

New Church Grammar School ,Owo has been crowned as the Champions of Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye Football Competition in Owo, Ondo State.

Otherwise known as the Olowo’s Cup, the thrilling final encounter on Saturday at the Owo Township Stadium,saw the new champion triumphed over Imade College Owo with a decisive lone goal, to secure the title in the 2nd Edition of the football tournament.

The match, which showcased intense competition going by the skills displayed by the two finalists, but New Church Grammar School, ultimately clinched the victory.

This win marks a significant achievement for the school, as the school celebrated their new champion status in the local football scene.

The final match of the tournament was watched by soccer pundits and enthusiast, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami who represented the Governor as Special Guest, the initiator, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III,the Olowo of Owo and Paramount Ruler of Owo land, the sponsor, Hon Ajibola Adetula of Oludasa Dynasty in Owo and other important dignitaries.

Others were Chief Olugbenga Eleduma who was the Chairman of the event, scores of LCDA Chairmen, some Local and State Government functionaries , political leaders and the competition’s Local Organizing Committee led by the Chairman, Dr Olayinka Osho.

All speakers at the occasion commended the initiator of the competition (His Majesty) and highlighted the tournament’s high standard expressing a strong commitment to enhance future editions just as this year’s sponsor (Hon Ajibola Adetula) promised to continue with the introduction of female edition of the football tournament.

The 3rd place march which took place earlier, was between Owo High School, and AUD Comprehensive High School.

The result of the match was determined by penalty shoot out after 90 minutes produced no goal.

AUD Comprehensive High School eventually clinched the Bronze by 6 goals to 5.

Prizes and awards were given for individual performances with the winners receiving the sum of N100,000.00, while the first and second runner up received N80,000.00 and N50,000.00 respectively.
