The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, (NFSC) Rev. Amb. Samuel Ikpea has reacted to the recent reshuffling by the Federal Executive Council (FEC)in which the Ministry of Sports paved the way for the National Sports Commission to now become the apex sports administration body in the country.
Ikpea who spoke from his base in Lagos while welcoming the development however charged the National Sports Commission which has always had a developmental foundation role to ensure that the development of sports in the country is made paramount.
“We welcome the development of the re-introduction of the Nigeria Sports Commission” Ikpea started. “The NSC must focus on its objective which is grassroots sports development and ensure that the National Sports Festival, Youth Games and other youth oriented sports focus on genuine development”.
Ikpea, who believes that Nigeria wobbled in the last Paris Olympics games, is also optimistic that the early introduction of the NSC at this point will give room for plans ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics provided the appropriate persons are allowed to do the job the way it should be done.
“We may have performed poorly in the last Olympics, but allowing the NSC to come back barely two months after the Olympics is a good step in the right direction”. “The build-up to the success of the 2028 Olympics begins immediately”
Ikpea further reminded the NSC that as part of a programme towards the build-up to the Los Angeles Olympics, adequate attention should be given to the Youth Olympics, which comes up in Dakar, Senegal in 2026.
