A total of 32 teams across Ikorodu city of Lagos would fight for the sum of N1 million as a prize money in the Gafar Bolowotan Memorial Gold Cup, which kicked off on Thursday morning at the Police Barrack playground, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos.
This was announced by the chairman organising committee, Alhaji Lukman Sonibare, at the draw conference held recently in Ikorodu.
In his comments, Sonibare, who doubles as chairman of Ikorodu Divisional Football Association, disclosed that champions of the tournament would go home with the sum of N500,000 with a giant trophy, while the first and second runners-up would receive the sum of N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.
Sonibare urged the participating teams to be of good behaviour and channel their grievances to the appropriate committee instead of taking the law into their own hands during their matches.
“We are looking forward to the commencement of the Bolowotan Memorial Gold Cup. The cup donor and immediate past Director General of Lagos State Sports Commission, Alhaji Gafar Bolowota,n has announced prize money for the winners, which is very encouraging to the teams.
“And I want to appeal to the coaches and fans to be disciplined during their matches. Let me say this If any team or coach is not comfortable with officiating or our organisation, they are free to come to me or meet the disciplinary committee so that we can resolve the matter amicably instead of castigating the match officials or organisers.
“Any team found wanting or violating our rules would be sanctioned accordingly,” he said.
Meanwhile, four matches would be played today as Perfect Touch face Circle Range at 10am. Right To Smile FC tackle Arubinjaga FA by 12 noon, while Sportlectual battle Shola FC by 2pm, as Valour welcome Nada by 4pm.
