According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the number of mobile phone subscribers in Nigeria reached 219.7 million as of the end of February 2024.
This figure, which was 224.4 million in December 2023, will reach 218 million in January 2024, with the loss of approximately six million lines by users following the NCC’s instruction on the NIN-SIM network.
According to NCC, the two big players in the industry, MTN and Airtel, continue to dominate.
MTN continues its leadership with 80,895,695 lines in February, up from 79,784,880 lines in January.
Airtel, on the other hand, increased from 62,601,992 in January to 63,036,167 in February.
Globacom’s subscriber count also increased slightly from 61,926,445 to 62,103,201, while 9mobile fell from 13,646,117 to 12,799,694 in January.
NCC also noted that communication increased from 100.75 percent in January to 101.47 percent in February.
