In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child, the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Dr. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, paid a courtesy visit to the APC Youth House, Office of the National Youth Leader, on Wednesday evening in Abuja.
The visit, which brought together members of the APC Youth Wing, women leaders, and young progressives as part of the Youth Wing’s initiatives, underscored the importance of investing in the empowerment, education, and leadership development of the Nigerian girl child.
In his welcome remarks, the National Youth Leader of the APC, Dr Dayo Israel, appreciated the Honourable Minister for her steadfast commitment to advancing the welfare of women and girls in Nigeria. He emphasized the APC Youth Wing’s continued support for initiatives that promote gender inclusion, equal opportunity, and social development.
“Empowering the girl child is empowering the next generation. At the APC Youth Wing, we remain committed to creating platforms that enable every young woman to find her voice and shape her future,” said Dr. Dayo Israel.
Dr. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim while delivering her keynote address, commended the APC Youth Wing for its growing efforts in promoting youth and women inclusion within the party’s structure. She urged the youth to remain champions of advocacy, mentorship, and progressive leadership that reflects the values of equality and empowerment.
“Every girl deserves the chance to dream, grow, and lead. The Ministry of Women Affairs will continue to strengthen partnerships that ensure girls are protected, educated, and supported to reach their full potential.
We must also treat the issue of rape with utmost seriousness — it is not the responsibility of one entity alone; it requires a multi-sectoral approach,” she noted.
The evening featured an interactive session and fireside chat, during which the Honourable Minister shared her experiences in leadership and public service, inspiring young attendees to pursue purpose-driven careers and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Progressive Young Ladies Network, a youth-led initiative designed to foster mentorship, leadership training, and active participation of young women within the APC and beyond.
The program concluded with a presentation of souvenirs, group photographs, and media interactions, marking a memorable celebration of the global week of the girl child and reaffirming the APC Youth Wing’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.
