Executive Chairman of Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Hajj Olawale Liameed Gafar will lead other invited guests to grace the much anticipated Mainland Unity Cup final which holds on Friday by 2pm at the Ojoniyu Sport Center, Mainland Local Government.
The tourney, which kicked off some weeks ago, is being organised by Damilola Taylor Foundation and sponsored by honourable Adekunle Adebanjo popularly known as Froggie.
The final match would be played between Ward C football team and Ward H football team.
The two finalists emerged as overall winners in their various groups and automatically they would play each other in final.
All the nine wards in Mainland local government took part in the competition which was organised for only footballers who are aboved 40 years old and reside in Mainland.
Among other invited guests that would grace the grand finale are National Youth Leader APC, Hon. (Dr.) Dayo Israel, Honourable Lanre Oshun, House of Representatives member, Lagos Mainland Constituency,
Others are Director General Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr Lekan Fatodu, SSA to the Governor of Lagos State on Youth Mobilization, Honourable Opeyemi Alabi, SSA to the Governor of Lagos State on Social Development, Honourable Biliamin Oba.
Other invited guests included SSA to the Governor on Grassroot Sports, Honourable Adebanjo Atewogboye, Permanent Secretary board member, SUBEB, Lagos State chapter Honourable Adebayo Adefuye, and APC stalwarts in Lagos Mainland, Honourable Olawale Oshun, Honourable Monsuru Owolabi Alao, Dr. Tokunbo Oluwole and Honourable Adekunle Ademoye.
Chairman Organising Committee who double as cup donor, Adebanjo explained rational behind the tourney saying that it was organised to celebrate the footballers who have retired from their active football.
“We are still going to sponsor tournament for the young ones but presently we did it for our footballers in Mainland who are above 40 years old. Honestly, the tourney is a reunion for the players and bring some of them who had left football for years back again,”he said.
Adebanjo said they have sent invitation to the football stakeholders in the sport industry and they all promised to grace the final ceremony.
