Head Coach of Honour Football Club of Oshodi, Lagos, Daniel Ibezm, has described late Peter Rufai as a complete gentleman and a humble person who has a passion for the round leather game.
The former Super Eagles goalkeeper Rufai died Thursday morning after a protracted illness.
His death came as a shock to the football family in Nigeria, while some sports stakeholders described his death as a national tragedy and a monumental loss to Nigeria Football Federation NFF.
Ibezim, in his condolences message, stated that the passing of the legendary goalkeeper is a painful loss for Nigerian football and world football in general.
“Like I said earlier, it is a big loss to Nigerian football and all of us who are his fans and admirers. He made an impact as a player. I met him during my course at the Nigeria Institute for Sports in Lago,s and he was a completely gentlemanly and humble person,” he said.
Ibezim who is also a founder of Honour FC and Honour Queens, urged the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to always check on the past heroes who are medically ill and give them necessary support when they are alive.
“I encourage the NFF to take good care of all our legends while they’re alive. Let them be celebrated. They are actually loved by all and sundry. We will never forget Peter Rufai’s legacy. Once again, may his soul continue to rest in peace,” he concluded.
