Head Coach of Young Strikers Football Club of Lagos Island, Waheed Kosoko has admitted that their scandalous defeat in the hands of Heritage Football Club in Week One of the Lagos State League was a wake up and urged his players to wake from their slumbers.
Kosoko disclosed this after Heritage FC thrashed them 5-0 on Saturday in week one of the Lagos State League held at the Ojo Barracks, Badagry Express Way.
Speaking after the encounter, Kosoko expressed disappoinment with the team’s performance saying that their defeat was a huge embarrassment to him and their fans on Lagos Island.
He explained that his players were not clinical in front of goal and commended his opponents for taking their chances in the second half.
“Saturday was a sad day for me and our fans because we came here to get reasonable result unfortunately we conceded five goals and this is not a good outing for us.
“We had some chances in the early encounter and we failed to convert our chances. Our opponents scored all their five goals in the second half which was very embarrassing to a club like Young Strikers,”he said.
Aside missing scoring chances,Kosoko also quickly attributed their heavy defeat as a result of ongoing Ramadan fasting observed by many of his players and complained that the venue really affected his player’s performance during the encounter.
Despite the heavy defeat, Kosoko still expressed optimism that his boys would bounce back in the next game and admonished them to see this defeat as a wake up call.
“Our next game is must win because we need to quickly bounce back.We have learnt a lot of lessons in our first game and the boys need to bounce back in their next game if they want to remain in contention in their group,”he said.
Reacting to the victory, Heritage Coach, Dominic Okata said his tactical changes he made in the second half turned things around for them and congratulated his boys for the job well done.
Meanwhile Daniel Moses was the man of the match after he scored hat-trick goal for Heritage in the second half following goalless draw in the first half.
Nehemiah Audu was also on rampage as he scored brace to complete the five goals thrillers for Heritage in the encounter watched by appreciable crowd.
