As part of activities of the state to leverage on the growth of sports and give platforms to potential champions, the Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission LSSC, Lekan Fatodu has also restated the commitment of the commission to provide an enabling environment for athletes to compete with the opportunity to express and showcase their talents in accordance with international standards.
He made the statement at the opening ceremony of the Zen Lagos Open Archery Championship, at thtMain Bowl, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
The Director General noted that the state is in support of innovative ideas and development that seeks to focus on the talent of individuals as well as stimulating actions that would yield unrivaled development in the sport ecosystem.
“We have an amazing and huge remarkable population of archers in state who are actually been waiting for an opportunity and collaboration of this nature between their community and the Lagos State government.
“ We are also targeting different sporting initiatives and activities , that’s why we are not just fixated on the well known sports like football, boxing, swimming and the rest”, stating further that the commission will continue to look into what others are doing in different disciplines for the purpose of achieving an holistic and huge community of sporting champions and talents in the state and leverage on the opportunity to train people who are great potential in the sports environment.
While also canvassing for more people particularly the youth to take interest in archery, Fatodu urged Oyeleke to continue to inspire and stimulate a pool number of people who will be leading and championing the state and Nigeria on the global and in the community of archery all over the world.
More than 100 archers from different clubs across the country are participating in an epoch-making Zen Archery Lagos Open championship. They are testing their supremacy in compound, recurve and barebow categories.
