The duo of Kehinde Samuel and Busayo Olatunji representing Nigeria have advanced to the quarterfinals in the ongoing 2023 Lagos International Squash at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun, Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.
In the women’s singles, Olatunji, Nigeria’s No.2 player walloped Mistura Durosinlorun in a hitting game that ended 3-1 (11-5,11-3,12-10,11-5).
However, it’s another test of power for Busayo Olatunji, who have booked a place in the quarter finals showdown against Mariam Ashraf of Egypt on Thursday.
“My first time of playing in this tournament was in 2018 and now l’ve garnered the experience to play like a professional squash player”,said Busayo Olatunji.
Nigeria’s No.1 Kehinde Samuel continues his dominance in the games following 3-0 (11-4,11-5,11-7) triumph against Frenchman opponent Laszio Godde. Samuel won his first game in the tournament,3-1 (13-11,11-4,10-12,11-2) in a four-set decider against his country man, Femi Shedara.
“It’s been really impressive for me and so far so good. I know it’s been very good performance for me participating in my first PSA official tournament,” he said.
Samuel added that the classics is a big tournament, and having the opportunity of rubbing shoulders and playing against the foreign players is a good exposure for him.
Adegoke Onaopemipo (Nigeria’s) in his second-round game rounded off Ziad Ibrahim (Egypt) 3-2 (16-16,5-11,5-11,11-7,11-8) to also moved to the next phase.
