Lagos FA Cup: Shocker As Athletic SC Hammer Gemstone 14-0 In Playoff

Athletic Sporting Club on Monday morning set a new record after hammering Gemstone Football Club 14-0 in the ongoing Lagos State Challenge Cup play off.

In the last ten years of Lagos FA Cup, no team have recorded biggest win in a male category as Athletic SC players were on rampage against their opponents early today at Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle, Lagos.

Uthman Mubarak scored four goals in the encounter watched by vice chairman of Lagos State Football Association and other state FA officiials.

It was one sided game as Athletic boys dominated the tie from the blast of whistle till the end.

Shina Olayanju,Legbe Tamara, Jeffren Joshua and Aliyu Ibrahim scored two goals each, while Toheeb Okubade and Azeez Razak scored a goal to make it 14 goals in the one sided encounter.

Athletic SC scored six goals in the first half and continued their impressive form in the second half as eight goals were recorded to make it 14 goals thriller.

Reacting to this defeat, Gemstone Coach,Arinze Odika described defeat a shocking and embarrassing moment of his coaching career saying that a serious restructuring would commence soonest.

Odika disclosed that he was disappointed with his team’s performance and also attributed team’s heavy defeat as a result of some key players who are injured.

“This is an embarrassing moment of my coaching career.Our defeat is not only a wake up call but it calls for restructuring of the club.The club chairman and I were embarrassed with this heavy loss and we need to take the defeat in good faith,”he said.

Asked if he would step aside following the heavy defeat,Odika said he won’t resign rather he would wait for the chairman to take his final decision on the club.

“I won’t resign as a coach but one thing is certain that there would be serious restructuring in the club. I also believe that Chairman would support the restructuring and we would work on the team’s weaknesses,”he said.

In his own comment, Athletic SC coach, Christian Isiekwene expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance noted that the victory would spur his team to win the next game.

In other results, Awatown FC lost 5-4 to Easy Nter Global through penalties after barren draw at the regulation time, Goal Getter walloped Busy Elite FA 6-2 and Elite Stars humbled OOA 3-2.

The Lagos FA Cup playoffs has ended on Monday all the victorious teams have moved to the rooky stage of the tournament which begins this week at the Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle, Lagos.
