Lagos Education Authority Holds Agricultural Exhibition To Promote Food Security

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) on Thursday, 18th December, 2025, organised an Agricultural Exhibition under its Agricultural Education Training Programme (AETP) to showcase the progress and impact of the initiative in public primary schools across the State.

The exhibition featured farm produce, seedlings, and practical demonstrations by pupils, reflecting the hands-on agricultural skills acquired through the programme. About 170 public primary schools benefited from the programme, which is funded by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) as part of efforts to strengthen basic education through skill-based learning.

Speaking at the exhibition, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu described agriculture as a strategic driver of economic growth and a sustainable response to food scarcity.

“Agriculture is central to economic development and food security. Through the support of the Universal Basic Education Commission and Mr. Governor, we are equipping our pupils with practical agricultural skills that promote self-reliance and productivity from an early age,” Dr. Shittu stated.

He furthered that the Agricultural Education Training Programme moves learning beyond the classroom by exposing pupils to practical farming techniques, innovation, and agric-business fundamentals. “This programme is not only about cultivation; it is about shaping mindsets. By teaching our children how to grow food and understand the agricultural value chain, we are investing in future agripreneurs who will contribute meaningfully to making Lagos State a 21st-century economy”

Dr. Shittu expressed his appreciation to UBEC for its continuous support and reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining and expanding the programme to reach more schools across the state.

Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, Board Member of LASUBEB, noted that the initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s agenda on food sufficiency, youth empowerment, and economic diversification, while complementing UBEC’s mandate of enhancing quality basic education nationwide.

He added that the exhibition underscored the role of education-driven agriculture in boosting local food production, strengthening economic resilience, and securing a sustainable future for Lagos State.
