It was a day of jubilation for pregnant women and nursing mothers as the one-week strategic implementation of reducing the death of pregnant women and their babies was activated at the Ohaukwu Local Government of Ebonyi State on Friday.
Speaking at the activation of MAMII, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Moses Ikenna Ekuma, thanked the Minister of Health and Social Welfare for his initiative to eradicate deaths of pregnant women in the country.
He also praised the effort of the state governor, Dr.Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and his wife for their efforts to eliminate the death of pregnant women in Ebonyi state by providing necessary equipment, drugs and support for various primary and secondary health centres across the state.
Present at the activation ceremony were the Permanent Secretary of Ebonyi State Ministry of Health, Chairman and Vice Chairman of Ohaukwu Local governments, heads of government agencies, international partners such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and others were in attendance.

The Federal Government representatives from the SWAP Office who are responsible for MAMII were also in attendance from NESMAS, FMOHWS and others from the NPHCDA, traditional and religious leaders
Pregnant women who were present were given MAMII kits and transport welfare packages.
