Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Africa Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), Dr. Kweku Tandoh, has emphasised the need for federations in the comity of International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to have governance structure in order to ease proper development of the game across the world.
Dr. Tandoh, a Nigerian, was speaking during the panel session at the ITTF Summit in Busan, South Korea on Sunday.
The key topic of the session was “ITTF Development from the Continental Perspective”.
Dr. Tandoh, who is the Chairman of the Youth Committee of ATTF, told his audience that “it is important we set up proper governance structure in Africa. Each member association will have similar governance structure in line with the structure in place at the ITTF.
“The ITTF Development Department should also introduce governance training for administrators. A good support can be received from the Olympic Solidarity will support this initiative,” he said.
Dr. Tandoh disclosed that in Africa, each region has specific requirements that can be applied to develop the game in that region, a reason the African Table Tennis Federation will implement the report on the specific requirements for every region on the continent in 2024.
“Before now, there is same template meant for all the regions, but it was discovered that each region has its own specific requirements which must be respected,” he said.
Apart from Dr. Tandoh, who is also the CEO of African Table Tennis Federation, other members of the panel session included ITTF America CEO Jorge Herera, Asian Table Tennis Union CEO, Nabil Alfakih, Europe Table Tennis Deputy Secretary General, Dalia Grovak and ITTF Oceania Deputy President, Sarah Sandley.
