Island Stars Football Academy of Lagos on Tuesday arrived in Lisbon, Portugal ahead of invitational football tournament tagged Iber Cup.
The Lagos- based football academy left the shore of the country on Tuesday afternoon with 16 players and officials.
Island Stars Football Academy played CD Maristas of Portugal on Wednesday. They are expected to play two matches on Thursday against CF “os Belenenses” D, Portugal and VGA ST Maur, France.
Speaking with our correspondent from Lisbon, head of coaching crew of Island Stars, Victor Akinmoyo said the tournament is part of the programme lined for the academy in year 2025 saying that all the players are in good shape for the Iber Cup.
“We thank God for the journey mercies to Portugal and we have finally settled down in Lisbon For the Iber Cup. Presently, the players are happy and looking forward to their opening match. We would play our first match on Wednesday and play two matches on Thursday in Lisbon,”he said.
Akinmoyo disclosed that the invitational football tournament would help his players to be exposed to the modern day football and compete with their peers in other part of the Europe.
He furthered said Iber Cup is a youth tournament that attracts football academies from various countries in Europe noted that Island Stars Football Academy are ready to give all their opponents a run for their money throughout the tournament.
