The Secretary-General of the Imo State University Alumni Association (IMSUAA) Dr. Majesty Duru has hailed the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Student (NANS) for initiating the IMSU Clean-Up initiative which took place on Saturday, March 29, 2025 inside the school premises.
According to a statement from IMSUAA Publicity Secretary, Sinikiem Ayoko, Dr. Majesty who was physically present on Saturday to witness the exercise further advised NANS to always inform the Alumni of her activities ahead of time, as this will help in strengthening the relationship between NANS and IMSUAA.
The initiative which was tagged “My Home, My Sanity, Let’s Clean Our Home, Lets Clean Imo State University” was initiated by NANS Zone F in Conjunction with Confederation of Faculty Presidents Imo State University. It further gathered all student leaders within the school to be directly involved in cleaning the compound, while IMSUAA which is the highest ruling body of all students who graduated from IMSU gave its blessings to it.
A sum of N100, 000 was sanctioned by IMSUAA for the exercise as a means of encouraging the initiative, with belief that this bond which is now forged between IMSUAA and NANS will be further improved with stronger collaboration in the future.
While receiving the donation, NANS Zone F Secretary -General Jacinta Chinedu Alfred, who is also of IMSU descent, thanked IMSUAA for the kind gesture and commended the Alumni’s prompt response to their call despite the short notice.

Like Oliver Twist, who would always ask for more, Jacienta further appealed to IMSUAA to assist NANS in facilitating the restoration of a functional Student Union Government (SUG) in the school, adding that NANS Zone F and the Faculty Leadership have taken upon themselves to fill the lacuna created by SUG absence.
In his submission, Chairman of Imo (Mother) Chapter, Barr. Okey Nwelue who was also part of IMSUAA NEC delegation gave NANS the full assurance of IMSUAA support and noted that the Clean-Up exercise is one of the exercises put in place to re-establish IMSUAA’s presence in IMSU.
It will be recalled that the Clean-Up exercise facilitated by NANS in IMSU is reminiscent of the GoGreenStayClean environment policy of the rebuild Imo Government which was witnessed in Imo State as a whole in 2019.
