A goal from Emmanuel Orji in the early second half was Ikorodu Football Academy needed to emerge as champions of 1XBET Community Cup which held on Thursday afternoon at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena popularly known as Onikan Stadium.
Ikorodu Academy defeated ISAGT Athletics 1-0 in the final watched by thousands of fans.
Orji superbly converted a pass from the left flank to send their fans into wild jubilation.
Both teams missed some scoring chances during the pulstaing tie before the much needed goal came through Orji.
Reacting to the victory, Ikorodu coach, Wasghton Egor expressed delight in the performance of his boys saying that the victory was well deserved.
“It was a tough game but I thank God for the hard fought victory.I commend my boys for their resilience and determination showed throughout the game.
“I also want to thank our fans for their support given to us throughout our matches and I am very grateful to our club chairman who gave me the opportunity to work in the team,”he said.
ISAGT Athletic coach,Tunji Omoniyi showered praises on his players despite the painful defeat admitted that his opponents were better and deserved the victory.
In the third place match played ealrier,Dosu Joseph FC defeated Nath Boys 2-1 to emerge as third place winners.
During the medal presentations,Ikorodu boys received a sum of N10million naira,while second and third position went home with the sum of N5 million and N3million naira respectively.
Outstanding players of the tournament also rewarded cash prizes for the job well done.
