The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially announced Ikenne, Ogun State, as the host city for the 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six Tournament—marking a return of the six-team event to the South West region for the first time since the 2021 edition held in Ijebu Ode.
The season-defining title playoff is scheduled to take place from Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 17, 2025, at the Remo Stars Stadium, the home ground of Remo Stars Ladies.
Speaking on the host selection, NWFL Chairperson, Ms. Nkechi Obi, said: “On behalf of the board and management of the NWFL, I congratulate Ikenne and Ogun State on being selected to host this year’s NWFL Premiership Super Six.
“This is a significant opportunity to further stimulate the revival of women’s football in the state—fondly remembered as hosts of the inaugural Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in 1998—and to elevate the profile of the women’s game nationwide.
“Last year, we hosted the competition in Yenagoa, South-South, and now we’re excited to bring it to Ikenne in the South West, in line with our WomenFootballRising agenda to spread elite women’s football across every region of Nigeria.”
This marks the first time Ikenne will host the NWFL Premiership playoffs and comes just two years after Remo Stars Ladies secured their historic promotion to the topflight at the same venue during the 2023 NWFL Championship.
According to a circular sent to the participating clubs, the 2025 Super Six will be played in a round-robin format, with all six teams playing five matches each. Teams are expected to arrive on Thursday, May 8, with the tournament draw and pre-match meeting scheduled for Friday, May 9.
So far, five clubs have booked their place in the tournament: Rivers Angels, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, and Remo Stars Ladies. The sixth and final slot will be determined after the decisive Matchweek 14 clash between Robo Queens and Naija Ratels on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
The NWFL Premiership has produced different champions in the last four editions—Rivers Angels (2021), Bayelsa Queens (2022), Delta Queens (2023), and Edo Queens (2024)—setting the stage for another exciting battle for the title.
The winner of the 2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six will go on to represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B Qualifiers for a place in the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League, and ultimately, the inaugural 2026 FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
