The much-anticipated Championship Cup kicked off on Saturday morning at Ijegun market football pitch, Alimosho Lagos.
The competition which organised by Ijegun Joint Community Development Area CDA witnessed football teams from various communities under Ijegun CDA.
In some matches played on Saturday morning, Starlight lost 0-3 to Abaniseloluwa FC, Awonusi also lost 2-5 to Kudeyibu FC, Isokan humbled Prime FC 4-0, Progressives walloped United Progressives 3-0 as Ogunkoya hammered Universal 6-0.
A member of the organising commiittee, Engineer Isreal Adeshina expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation of the teams saying that the purpose of the tournament is to engage the youths in Ijegun and its environs through sports.
He explained further that the championship Cup was organised by 27 CDA communities under Ijegun to give the young footballers a platform to showcase their God given talents.
“Let me say the members of the Organising Committee are excited about the commencement of the competition.We saw our children gave a good account of themselves and this is to tell you that Ijegun has talented footballers who can represent the country in the future continental and international football tournaments.
“We the CDA members in Ijegun want to start engaging our youths through sports.We are going to organise other sporting activities that would bring the best out of them soonest,”he said.
Meanwhile actions resume on Sunday afternoon when Prayingfield face Irewolede, Olorunsogo would keep a date with Afurugbin, while Newdown face Ifedapo as Irede tackle Peace Estate.
