The ongoing Ijegun Joint CDA football competition tagged’ Ijegun Championship Cup” has reached the round of 16 at the Ijegun prayingfield, Alimosho, Lagos.
The competition which started some weeks ago is being organised by Ijegun Joint CDA communities as part of its effort to use football in promoting peace, unity among all the youths in Ijegun and its environs.
In the fixtures released by the organisers, five matches would hold on Saturday as Ajagun face Ajagun central,Ifedapo battle Afurugbin,Irede tackle Ifelodu as Isokan confront Olorunsogo, while prayingfield tackle Abanise football team in the last match of the day.
Action resumes on Sunday when Kudeyibu face Atewolara, Ogunkoya battle Irewolede, while Progressive keep a date with Ifelodun.
A member of the organising commiittee, Engineer Isreal Adeshina urged the teams not to see the tournament as a do or die affairs and urged them to use the tournament to promote peace, unity and friendliness among the communites in Ijegun.
“The competition has entered the crucial stage and we want the teams involved to shun soccer violence during and after their game.It has been a hitch free tourney since we started and I want it to continue like that.On behalf of the committee, we wish all the teams best of luck in their outings,” he said.
