As part of her commitment to youth development in Ijegun and its environs, vice chairman of Ikotun/ Igando Local Council Development Area, Honourable Mojisola Badmus has financially rewarded two semi finalists in the ongoing Ijegun Championship Cup held on Sunday at the prayingground, Ijegun, Lagos.
Badmus was among the dignitaries that watched a semi final match between Olorunsogo football team and Ifelodun football team.
Olorunsogo came from behind to defeat Ifelodun 3-2 to book a place in the final.
The encounter was also watched by members of Ijegun Joint Communities Development Area CDA and hundred of spectators.
Speaking after the match, the council boss who was elated with the competition expressed delight with the football display of the two teams confessed that both teams really lived up to expectations during the encounter.
“I want to thank the two teams for entertaining us with beautiful goals.I came here to associate myself with the organisers and i am impressed with the football display of both teams.A game like this, one team should win but like i said before the the two teams have done well and on that note,i give this token to the two semi finalists and I also give this token to most valuable player for his job well done,”she said.
Badmus also explained further that her council would continue to support youths and sports development as part of tools to keep the youths busy in Ijegun and other part of communities under Ikotun Igando LCDA.
She revealed that the council would be fully involved in the preparation ahead of closing ceremony and charged the organisers to make it a memorable and colourful grandfinale.
Badmus who also doubles as supervisor for Works and Infrastructures appreciated the effort of Ijegun Joint Communities CDA for this initiative and urged them not to relent on its effort towards the closing ceremony.
“Of course the council would give its own support because we have seen the effort of our CDA.Honestly they have done well and don’t forget that this is my constituency so i would do everything to contribute my own quota.Secondly and i will inform my chairman concerning this competition and see what we can do to support Ijegun CDA ahead of the final,”she said.
In his own comment, Sunkanmi Muhammed, Cordinator National Youth Council of Nigeria, Igando/Ikotun Branch, Sunkanmi Muhammed also commended the organisers for using football tournament to unite the youths in Ijegun.He also said the NYCN will support the competition as part of its own quota to the youth development.
Meanwhile in the second semi final, Abanise football team lost 7-8 on penalties to Ijegun Central football team after one goal apiece at the regulation time.
The third place match and final ceremony would come up on 8, December 2023.
