Team Lagos to the just concluded National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State made history as they dethroned the host and defending champions.
The euphoria is not dying, as the Lagos State Sports community is abuzz with excitement and felicitations. And one young man, a fastly growing and reputable sports administrator and Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Sports, Hon. Damilare Orimoloye, was quick to remind everyone that the historic feat was not a fluke.
“Finishing first wasn’t a fluke, but a perfect representation of ‘preparation meets performance’. What with a total of 110 medals including a record-breaking 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze medals.
“We had impressive hauls across various sports, such as Football, Volleyball, Swimming, Gymnastics, Shooting, Athletics, Tennis, and Ayo Olopon. And we are incredibly proud of every athlete, who represented Lagos with courage and might,” Orimoloye noted.

He was particularly thankful to the Lagos State government, “a special appreciation goes to our number one cheerleader, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his deliberate and intentional support.
“I’d also extend my congratulations to the Director-General of Lagos Sports Commission Hon. Lekan Fatodu, my co-SSAs, the management, staff, coaches, and parents on this incredible feat.
“This is just the beginning of greater things to come for Team Lagos,” the amiable and youthful Orimoloye added.
