How Lagos Fire Service Averted Disaster At Mobil Filling Station In Ikeja

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) averted what could have been a major fire disaster Thursday when it effectively subdued and quelled a fire incident at the Mobil Filling Station on Awolowo Road, Ikeja.

A statement signed by Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire was ignited when a gas truck was discharging its contents into a surface storage tank at the filling station.

The blaze quickly spread, engulfing a total of eight vehicles, including the tanker itself, and affecting parts of the uppermost floor of a nearby two-storey building. However, the prompt response by the fire service teams from Alausa and Ikeja Fire Stations, in collaboration with other disaster management Agencies, ensured swift control of the raging fire.

While noting that the exact number of injuries is still yet to be determined, the Director said those found to have sustained injuries were evacuated to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for immediate treatment.

Other Agencies involved in managing the situation include the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Mobil Fire Unit from Apapa, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABCA), and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Mrs. Adeseye reiterated that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is committed to the safety and well-being of all residents and urged the public to exercise caution around flammable materials and follow safety guidelines at all times.
