A milestone was achieved on Wednesday March 13th, 2024 when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gombe State University and Green White Green (GWG) Sports Center Nigeria Limited was signed with the aim of providing and upgrading sports facilities for the benefit of young AthIetes and footballers in the State.
At the historic signing ceremony, the Vice- Chancellor of the University Professor El Nafaty expressed gratitude to Green White Green Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe for making the Land mark occasion a reality at the University Conference Hall.
The V.C noted that Gombe State University has now become dependable partner with the GWG Sports Center for the upgrading of sporting facilities to international standard as initiated by GWG over six months ago.
He reiterated there should be enough liason engagement between the two parties with the aim of enhancing sports in the university mainly track&field which is rare in Nigerian Universities.
Professor El Nafaty, further directed The university community particularly students, male and female to take advantage of the equipment installed to boost their health and educational pursuit
In the same vein, Mrs.. Hajiya… ()? Pleaded with the students to exhibit high sense of maturity when dealing with people outside the university community as to forester good relationships that will endure.
In his remarks, Chairman Green White Green Sports Center and Gombe State Athletics Association Chairman, Alhaji Ahmad Shuaibu Gombe shortly after signing the memorandum of understanding with the Gombe State University management said, more sports facilities in Gombe are urgently needed considering that there’s only one stadium in Pantami, which is grossly inadequate.
Therefore, a concerted efforts should be made to create alternative playing ground for the development of all sporting talents, particularly Athletics.
Hon. Gombe, however encouraged Stakeholders of the University Works Department to shun sycophancy and bottles necks, including utilities such as usage of Boreholes for water consumption.
He said, the Multi faceted benefits of signing the MoU by both parties for four years shows committed interest in assisting the University in upgrading its facilities as GWG would also maintain the pitch to create an alternative venue for other sporting events in Gombe State.
The technical adviser to Gombe State Athletics Association, Prince Simon Ayuba, said that signing such agreement is a morale booster for Young Athletes in Gombe as more of Inter-Secondary schools competition will soon commence.
He added that, the MoU has become a Life time achievement of sports development in Gombe with tertiary institutions in collaboration with Privately owned firms will be a turning point in driving sports development in the State.
Recall that, the memorandum of understanding is a four years agreement between Green white Green sports center and Gombe State University with renewal clause.
Construction of international standard football pitch as well as provision of athletics facilities, which both University and Gombe State Athletics academy can utilized.
