Gombe School Athletics: Maigari Pledges Government Continued Support For School Sports Development

Gombe Commissioner of Education, Aishatu Umar Maigari has reiterated the government support for sports development in the state.

She disclosed this when she paid suprised visit to Patanmi Township Stadium where Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship and principal cup is taking place.

Speaking with journalists before she left, Maigari who was impressed with the organization and media coverage of Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship said Gombe government is still committed to the grassroots sports development saying that the ongoing Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship and principal cup is part of government continued support for the school sports development in the state.

Asked what support government gave to the organisers of the Inter Secondary Schools Athletics championship and principal cup,Maigari said the government has supported the grassroots inter athletics championship by releasing a public school for camping athletes and ordered the school teachers, principals,administrators and other stakeholders to fully involve in the school sports.

“The state government is fully aware of this programme and I am here to see things by myself.I must say that from what I have seen here, I am satisfied with the organization and there is also a room for improvement.

“We try as much as possible to ensure that all the stakeholders in the education sector key to this programme which is part of the government support.

“In addition, the school where the children camp is government school and is part of government continued support and ensure that talents are discovered through school sports in Gombe”,she said.
