Former Nigerian Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode says he is “not surprised by the military coup in Gabon“.
Fani-Kayode’s testimony came after a coup d’état in this Central African country.
The Gabonese army officers announced early on Wednesday that they have taken power after President Ali Bongo was elected to a third term on Saturday.

Senior army officers who said they would annul Saturday’s election result, which the opposition dismissed as “wrong”.
However, in a post on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Fani-Kayode said people in French-speaking countries in Central and West Africa could expect more coups.
He wrote: “Unfortunately there was another coup in Africa. This time it was in Gabon that President Ali Bongo was ousted from power.
“It seems that the warning I gave in my recent essay, ‘Does Killing Nigerian Children Glorify Our Name?’ was prophetic.
“I am not surprised that this happened and frankly, for the reasons I have discussed in this essay, we should expect more coups in French-speaking Central and West Africa.”
“I wonder if the ECOWAS or the African Union will also threaten to invade Gabon?”
