Sunday, 21 December 2025, was a sad day for the followers and fans of defending champions, Sansan Boys football team after they failed to defend the title won last year at the just concluded Football Fiesta Competition held at the Sansan football field, Igando, Alimosho, Lagos
Sansan Boys suffered 2-1 defeat against newcomers, Casamigos Football Club in the final watched by mammoth crowd.
Although Sansan Boys got the lead in the 34th minutes through Chuks Okwusa after capitalising on defensive errors of their opponents.
Casamigos who were trailing one goal down in the half time came back full force in the second half as their effort was rewarded when Malik Hamzat got the equaliser for his team in the 53th minutes.
It was a tough match for the defending champions, Sansan Boys as they allowed their opponents to control the game from the midfield.
Casamigos who were desperate for winning intensified their effort and Omobaba Sulaimon had the opportunity and quickly converted it in the 67th minutes to send their fans into uncontrollable jubilations.
Effort by Sansan Boys to get the equaliser proved abortive as Casamigos defenders remained unshaken and curtailed the onslaught of Sansan strikers throughout the game.
Reacting to the victory, Casamigos Coach,Abu Azeez expressed his happiness over the hard fought victory boasting that his boys deserved to be crowned as champions.
“It was a tough game for both teams but my boys were better off because we stick to our game plans which really worked for us.Our second half was better and we got our goals at the appropriate time.I commend my boys for job well done,”he said.
In his own remark,Sansan Boys Coach, Tope Obayemi said it was a good game admitted that their opponents were better.
He also commended his boys for reaching the final against all odds and thanked the fans for their unwavering support given the team throughout the tournament.
Commenting on the tournament, match coordinator, Habeeb Bello expressed delight with the success of the competition saying that this year’s edition was better than last year.
He explained that more teams involved in this year and the better team emerged as new champions.
He also highlighted the importance of the competition in the community and praised the organising committee and sub-committe who committed themselves to make this year’s edition a huge success.
During the medal presentation, individual awards were presented to outstanding players of the tournament.
Casamigos Coach,Abu Azeez won best coach of the tournament,while best goal keeper award went to Korede Samson from Casamigos.
Mufutau Ishola from Unity FC adjuged as most valuable player as Chuks Okwusa from Sansan Boys won highest goal scorers award after scoring six goals so far in the tournament
Agbazi Micheal from Casamigos selected as man of the match in the final and he was rewarded a sum of N50,000.
The winners went home with the sum of N250,000 with a giant trophy, while Sansan Boys received the sum of N150,000.
