Fans who came to watch YUCATECO Boxing League Friday night in Ikorodu were excited and impressed with the standard of the amateur boxers who were in action for almost three hours.
The boxing league was put together by YUCATECO Boxing Promotions under The leadership of Omole Imadu.
Twenty boxers were in action in various categories which started late Friday night and ended 3am early this morning at the Jigi Wura event center, Ikorodu,Lagos.
The fans who came in large numbers to support their boxers were satisfied with the performance of the boxers and commended them for the job well done.
Some of the fans who spoke to our correspondent said the boxers are good for future national and international competitions, while others applauded them for their resilience and doggedness in their bouts.
“This is a good development for our upcoming boxers.They really showed us that they are ready for future challenges.I believe that some of them can represent the country in the future national and international assignments,”said Kazeem, a fan of one of the boxers.
Eight boxing clubs are grouped into two.Group A comprises of Akil BC,Angulo BC,Progresso BC and Conkal BC.Group B are made up of Espita BC, YS Rano BC,Tizimin BC and GGFM BC.
In the bouts that concluded early this morning, Sultan Adekoya from Espita defeated Alani Joseph from YS Rano, Isreal Makinde of Tizimin also eon Solomon Chukwuemeka of GGFM in 51kg.
In the 57kg, Isreal Ogbodo from Espita lost to Tobiloba Ijomoni from YS Rano, while Balogun Tobiloba from Tizimin also suffered defeat against Erinfolami Razak of GGFM.
In the 63kg,Abdulraham Wahab of Espita beat Abiodun Okuwatobi of YS Rano, as Rilwan Olalere of Tizimin came out victorious against Muhammad Olalere of GGFM.
Winners aslo emerged in the 71kg as Victor Zuokeme of Espita lost yo Abiodun Adetayo of YS Rano, while Daniel Joshua of GGFM emerged winner Olawale Olojede of Tizimin.
In the 75kg, Hamed Tajudeen of Espita also beat Bashiru Adeyemi of RS Rano as Babalola Michael of Tizimin lost to David Akintola of GGFM.
The boxing league according to Imadu would last for three months as organisers would be staging the league in various places in the state to give them the room to discover young talents that can nurture to stardom.
