Former Nigerian National Welterweight Boxing Champion, Felix Akpan, has hailed the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the presidential election held on 25 February, 2023, saying democracy is at play in Nigeria.
Akpan, who is also a former West African Welterweight Champion, said Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos state, is a true leader that Nigeria needs at this period of her history.
“I want to congratulate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his emergence as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The overwhelming victory at the last election shows that Tinubu is generally accepted by the people of this country. He has the experience and the expertise to be our president,” he said.
The former boxer called on the President-elect not to forget sports, most especially boxing, when he assumed office. “Boxing brought fame to Nigeria in those day and I want my President to do something for the growth and development of the sport in Nigeria. I will also want him to look into the case of Bash Ali this time so that Nigeria will have the opportunity to host and stage the much talked about Guinness World Record Boxing Championship,” he said.
Akpan, who is the Chairman of Iju Ishaga Unit B Phase 2, Ikeja of the Lagos Parks Management Committee, also congratulated the chairman of the Committee, Alhaii Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, for playing a good role in ensuring the victory of Tinubu, even as he wants MC Oluomo to play similar role to see Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu wins the forthcoming gubernatorial poll in Lagos
“My leader, MC Oluomo’s love for Asiwaju knows no bound. We saw the way he mobilised all members of the Lagos Parks Management Committee to ensure that Tinubu won the election,” Akpan said.
The Akwa-Ibom State-born former boxer, who has been coordinating the affairs of Iju Ishaga Unit, Ikeja very well assured that Governor Sanwo-Olu will be returned for second term in office come 18 March when the gubernatorial election holds.
“I know my Chairman, MC Oluomo would not rest on his oars to ensure that Sanwo-Olu wins the election,” Akpan said.
