The President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Otuekong Bonny Nyong, says the qualification of the Super Eagles into the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations is another giant step towards lifting the trophy.
Otuekong Nyong, who joined football stakeholders and millions of sports loving Nigerians to watch the match, remarked that having achieved the first task of qualifying from the group stage, the Super Eagles can now plan fresh strategies against their next opponent.
“The team must be commended for their resilience and determination to succeed. The players and the coach must now forget the last match and look forward to the next one. It will be one match at a time with different approaches.
“Having achieved our first objective of qualifying from the group stage, our focus and attention should now be on the next match,” he stated.
The SWAN President lauded the camaraderie existing in the team and how they fight for each other during matches, adding that such spirit will be difficult to bend.
He assured of the continued coverage of the Super Eagles activities in Ivory Coast by Nigerian sports writers, who he says have been wonderful so far.
Said he: “Let me commend our members who are presently covering the AFCON in Ivory Coast. They have been professional so far in the discharge of their duties, and I am proud of them.
“Their coverage of the Super Eagles has been wonderful, and I can only urge them not to relent, especially as the team gathers momentum in the knockout stages.”
