The defending champions of the West African Regional Baseball5 championship, Ghana started their campaign in the second edition with an impressive 2-0 win(9-1,11-1) against host Nigeria in their opener.
The game which was played at the NIS Sports Complex Gymnasium, inside the national Stadium on Saturday started with a first set by 10:16 am WAT, had five innings, and Ghana made 9 runs out of it while the hosts had just 1.
The 9 runs gave the Ghanaians a win in the first set of the encounter which ended at exactly 11:00 (WAT).
Nigeria’s hope of leveling up in the second set suffered another setback when the second set started at exactly 11:07am WAT. Ghana took an early lead within 15 minutes of play with 6 runs leaving Nigeria with just 1.
The Nigerian side committed several errors as they stepped out of the batter’s box severally and these errors affected their chances of progressing as they were taken out.
The Ghanaians boys were a very big motivation to their girls as they guided them to victory while the same was lacking in the Nigerian side. NB-:(This game is a mixed game)
The second set eventually ended 11-1 and it was also the final set owing to Nigeria’s failure to level up as that could take the game to a third set to determine who wins.
The 2-0 means Nigeria will need to win their last two games to keep their hopes of qualifying alive.
