The 5th edition of the community marathon series, tagged Ikoyi 10km Road Race, will take place in Ikoyi, Lagos State. Nigeria on 28 October 2023.
The road race is the fifth edition of races under the stable of Lexicon Communications Ltd. and Kukuruku Inc.
The Community Marathon Series (CMS) is a rolling sporting project whereby series of 10 km and 5km road races are organized within the hinterlands of select communities in Nigeria with the purpose of galvanizing healthy lifestyles and fitness among the target populace, building a running community, promoting social interaction based on shared wellness goals, and enhancing the potentials of these communities through exposure to a global audience.
Tagged “Run to Win or Run for Fun, the Ikoyi 10km Road Race will bring together runners across the nooks and crannies of the country to Ikoyi, the most affluent neighbourhood of Lagos, located in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. It lies to the northeast of Obalende, adjoins Lagos Island to the west, and is at the edge of the Lagos Lagoon. Popular with the extreme upper-class residents of Nigerian society, Ikoyi is arguably one of the wealthiest communities within Nigeria.
With facilitating support from major brands like Amstel Malta and media support from MultiChoice Nigeria, CoolFM, Wazobia FM, and Nigeria Info, the Ikoyi 10km Road Race promises to be more glamorous than the previous races, which were held in FESTAC Town in Amuwo  Odofin, Lagos, on October 2, 2021, Lekki on January 29, 2022, Asaba on December 17, 2022, and Epe on April 29, 2023.
As part of engineering positive lifestyle habits, the organizers have decided to include other fitness activities like aerobics and a 5km fitness walk in the 5th edition of the community marathon series (Ikoyi 10km Road Race).
Participants in the 5-kilometre road walk will include corporate individuals from various organisations, fitness lovers, fitness clubs, and students, and it will be open to the general public who are health and fitness conscious.
The walk will be led by a rig with a DJ and a hype MC playing music and rendering fitness hypes to motivate the participants while an aerobics instructor leads the walk.
There will also be ambulances for first aid and first responders, LASTMA and the road safety officers to help control traffic along the walk route.
Water/rehydration and fruit points will be strategically positioned along the walk route, with volunteers giving water and fruits to athletes and walkers.
There will be branded T-shirts at a cost for participants to add colour to the event.
The 10km road race and 5km walk will flag off from different locations and meet up at the finishing point, where prizes, medals, and memorabilia will be given to all the participants.
Cash prizes will be given to the competitive runners in the 10-kilometre road race. Cash prizes will go to the top 5 male and female runners.
