Climate Change Club Launched In Public Schools In Kwara State

The Kwara State Government has taken a proactive step towards addressing climate change by inaugurating a Climate Change Club in public schools.

The launch event, held at Government High School, Adeta, Ilorin, brought together key stakeholders, including members of the Kwara State Interministerial Committee on Climate Change, government representatives, environmental health professionals, and non-governmental organizations.

Mallam Shehu Ndanusa Usman, the State Commissioner for Environment, highlighted the urgency of tackling climate change and its adverse effects, particularly the impacts of illegal deforestation on the environment, biodiversity, and overall ecosystems.

He emphasized the broad consequences on health, food security, and daily life.

Aligning with the government’s commitment to enforcing laws against illegal logging, Commissioner Usman urged students to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts and advocate for a clean and healthy environment.

The Principal of Government High School, Adeta, expressed optimism about the Climate Change Club’s potential to positively impact environmental conservation.

He pledged the club’s unwavering support in collaborating with the government to combat deforestation and promote sustainable environmental practices in the state.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious and responsible individuals.
